Kristie Leyba is beginning a new adventure in Madera Unified School District. She will be the ELA Curriculum Coordinator Secondary Division for Madera Unified. Kristie will be working primarily with teachers in a supportive, coaching role. She comes to Madera with 15 years of teaching experience. Most of her experience is in working with high school seniors. She has taught many genres of English; including AP literature, Chicano and Latino literature, and General English 4. Kristie is excited about her new position, but she will miss working with students. She will be a huge asset for Madera Unified teachers!

It was a powerful experience for her to teach Chicano Literature at the high school level for six years. She felt the stories were universal and gave students a voice. Students felt empowered when they finished this course and grateful for having a wonderful instructor who inspired and encourage them to the best they could be. At the end of their senior year they were prepared to meet the challenges of the real world thanks to her teaching style and methodology. Students from all walks of life enjoyed this course and have been forever tankful for an experience not offered at many other schools in our Valley.
